Get a Library Card

Get started today by visiting one of our twenty branch locations. You’ll need:

  • Photo/Government ID
  • One proof of current address (can be your photo/government ID if it displays your current address)
  • Patrons under the age of 18 will need a responsible adult with a valid library card to complete the minor’s registration card and agree to accept responsibility for the account. 
  • To be eligible to receive a CMRLS Library Card, you must live, work, or attend school in Rankin, Scott, Simpson, and Smith Counties, or an adjoining county in Mississippi. There is a non-resident library card fee option.

Types of Library Cards

Acorn Card

  • Fine Free card for vulnerable adults and patrons 18 and under. 
  • Must live, work, attend school, or own property in Rankin, Scott, Simpson, or Smith Counties. 
  • Parental consent is required.
  • May check out 2 items at a time. 
  • Cardholders 17 years and under may not check out video games, DVDs, and BluRay discs. 

    Resident Library Card

    • Must live, work, attend school, or own property in Rankin, Scott, Simpson, or Smith Counties.
    • Accepted identification to prove residency:
      • MS Driver’s license.
      • Photo ID (state, work, school, etc.)
      • Utility/telephone bill/lease (showing current address)
    • Must be 18 years old to apply without parent or guardian. 

      Nonresidential Library Card

      • A $25 annual fee is charged to anyone who does not live, work, attend school, or own property in Rankin, Scott, Simpson, or Smith Counties.
      • All members of a family, including minor children may have NonResident cards if all reside at address given. 
      • Parent/Guardian must sign library card for minor children and will be responsible for fines. 

        Guest Pass

        • A one-time only pass for anyone living outside the service area and showing a valid ID, to use the public access computers. 
        • Must be 18 or older.

          Computer Only Card

          • A card for anyone showing a valid ID, completing an application, and wishing only use the library’s public access computers. 
          • This may be upgraded to full access to the library at any time.

            Teacher Card

            • Teachers who are employed by a school district in Rankin, Scott, Simpson, and Smith counties are eligible for our Teacher Card.
            • Teachers will have a separate card to check out materials that will be used in their classroom.
            • School identification card must be presented to be eligible for this card.
            • Loan period is four weeks.
            • Late fiens will be waived as a professional courtesty to the teacher. This will only be applied to materials that are being used in the classroom.
            • The Teacher Card cannot be used for personal checkout; therefore, fines and fees on their personal cards will be the responsibility of the teacher and must be paid.

              Homeschool Card

              • Rules that apply to the teacher’s card apply to Homeschool Card.
              • The patron must present a current copy of the “Certificate of Attendance” issued by the county in which they reside. This must be updated each year upon renewal of the library card.
